Pillar three

Build people,
not followers.

Leadership should multiply maturity, responsibility and capacity in others — not create dependency on you.

The test of leadership is not the room you can fill. It is what happens in that room once you leave it. Dependency is easy to build and it feels like influence right up until the moment it costs you everything.

Building people is slower. You have to hand things over before they are ready, let them be done imperfectly, and stay in the room while they are learned. Most people would rather keep the work than grow the person.

This is where I think out loud about doing it the slow way.

Leadership is caught more than taught. A room of builders is the fastest way to catch it.
