Think in
generations.
Build things capable of continuing beyond your own lifetime. If it collapses when you step away, it was never built.
A legacy is not a lump sum. It is a structure — of judgement, of relationships, of institutions — that keeps working when the person who started it is no longer there to hold it together.
That is a longer horizon than most of us are comfortable with. It means building for people we will not meet, in places that are not finished, and accepting that we will not see the return in our own accounts.
Africa is where I have chosen to do that. These essays explain why.
